This page explains what personal data MusoNet collects, why we collect it, how it is used, and your rights under UK data protection law (UK GDPR and the Data Protection Act 2018).

Who we are

MusoNet is a UK-focused platform that helps musicians, bands/projects, and industry professionals discover each other and connect. When we say “MusoNet”, “we”, “us” or “our”, we mean the operator of the MusoNet service.

If you need to contact us about privacy, the fastest route is the Support page.

The basics (quick summary)

  • We collect the information you provide to create an account and build your profile (for example email, profile content and links).
  • If you publish your profile, some of the information you add is public (so others can discover you).
  • Payments are handled by our payment provider (Stripe). We do not store your full card details.
  • We use security tools (such as Cloudflare Turnstile) to reduce spam and abuse.
  • You can request help via the Support page. Support messages are stored so we can respond and improve the service.

What data we collect

Account data

Email address, login/session identifiers, and basic account status (for example subscription status).

Profile data (what you choose to add)

This can include your artist/band/project name, location (e.g. city/region), bio, genres, roles, social links, images, and other content you add to your profile.

Public visibility: when you publish your profile, parts of it are visible to visitors and other users so they can discover you. Do not publish anything you do not want to be public.

Directory and saved searches

If you use saved searches, we store the filters you saved (e.g. location, genres, roles, and “looking for” settings) so you can reuse them. You can optionally create share links to saved searches.

Gig Guide data

If you add gigs/events (where supported), we store that information so it can appear in Gig Guide listings.

Support messages

If you contact us through MusoNet, we store the message, category, and basic context so we can respond and improve the platform.

Technical and security data

Like most websites, we may process technical logs needed to operate and secure the service (for example IP address, device/browser information, and event logs). We also use anti-bot verification (Turnstile).

Reviews & testimonials (if enabled)

If you leave a review or testimonial (where supported), we may store your rating, text, and limited display info (e.g. first name and profile image) for display on MusoNet.

Why we use your data (purposes)

  • To create and manage your account, and authenticate access.
  • To provide core platform features (profiles, Directory, Gig Guide, saved searches).
  • To process payments and manage subscriptions (via Stripe).
  • To protect the service and users from spam, abuse, and fraud (e.g. Turnstile and security logging).
  • To respond to support requests and improve the service.
  • To send service messages (e.g. verification emails, account notices). If you enable alert emails for saved searches, we send those digests (where supported).

Lawful bases (UK GDPR)

We process personal data under one or more of the following legal bases:

  • Contract: to provide the service you request (account, subscriptions, platform features).
  • Legitimate interests: to operate and improve MusoNet, prevent fraud/abuse, and keep the platform safe.
  • Legal obligation: where we must comply with applicable law.
  • Consent: where required for certain cookies/optional marketing (if introduced).

Who we share data with

We do not sell your personal data. We share data only as needed to run MusoNet, including with:

Infrastructure & hosting

MusoNet is hosted using modern cloud infrastructure (e.g. Vercel). Data is stored/managed using our database/auth provider (Supabase).

Payments

Subscriptions and payments are processed via Stripe. We do not store full card details on MusoNet.

Email delivery

We use an email provider (e.g. Brevo) to deliver verification emails and service alerts (where enabled).

Security / anti-bot

We use security and anti-bot tools (e.g. Cloudflare Turnstile) to help prevent automated abuse.

Note: providers may process data outside the UK. Where required, appropriate safeguards (such as standard contractual clauses) may be used.

How long we keep data (retention)

We keep personal data only for as long as needed to provide MusoNet and operate the platform. Typical examples:

  • Account and profile data is kept while your account remains active.
  • If you delete your account, we remove or anonymise data in line with platform needs and legal requirements.
  • Support messages may be kept for a reasonable period to track issues and improve MusoNet.

Your rights

Under UK data protection law, you may have rights including access, correction, deletion, restriction, objection, and data portability (depending on the situation).

If you want to exercise a right, contact us via the Support page.

You also have the right to complain to the UK supervisory authority: the Information Commissioner’s Office (ICO).

Cookies

Cookies are small files stored on your device. MusoNet may use cookies and similar storage to:

  • Keep you logged in (session/auth).
  • Remember basic preferences (where implemented).
  • Protect the service from abuse.

Where required, we show a cookie notice. Some cookies are necessary for the site to function.
